Starlite Series Flat Plate Solar Collectors
The Starlite Series is AET's core line of glazed flat plate solar thermal collectors; available in SL, SLHP, and SLC configurations, these collectors are designed for solar hot water systems across residential, commercial, and industrial installations. The SLC takes the Starlite platform further with a premium all-copper absorber for higher thermal conductivity and long-term corrosion resistance in high-demand installations.
Starlite Series Collector Models
We offer the Starlite Series in three configurations to match different hot water loads, installation types, and performance requirements. If you are unsure which model fits your situation, contact us and we will help you identify the right collector for your system.
Starlite SL Series
The Starlite SL is our standard glazed flat plate solar collector for closed-loop and direct solar hot water systems. Available in four sizes, SL-20 through SL-40, the SL covers gross collector areas from 20.6 to 40.9 ft². It is a common specification for residential solar hot water systems and light commercial installations where a proven, low-maintenance flat plate solar thermal collector is required.
Starlite SLHP Series
The Starlite SLHP shares the same frame, glazing, and absorber construction as the SL but is engineered for higher thermal output per collector. It is the preferred specification for larger residential systems, multi-family properties, and commercial solar hot water installations where more energy production is needed from each collector without adding mounting footprint.
Starlite SLC Series
The Starlite SLC is built with an all-copper absorber in place of the aluminum absorber plates used in the SL and SLHP. Copper's higher thermal conductivity improves heat transfer from the absorber surface to the fluid circuit, and its natural corrosion resistance extends collector life in coastal environments or installations with aggressive water chemistry. The SLC is available for residential, commercial, and high-demand industrial solar water heating systems where per-collector efficiency and long-term material durability are the primary specification criteria.
How Each Starlite Collector Is Built
Every Starlite collector is built around a tempered glass cover that lets in maximum sunlight and a coated absorber plate that converts that energy into heat. The heat transfers into the fluid running through the collector and moves into your hot water storage tank. The insulation behind the absorber keeps that heat from escaping out the back, and the aluminum frame and sealed glazing keep weather out over the long term. Every unit is manufactured at our facility in Green Cove Springs, Florida and built to operate for 20 years or more with minimal maintenance.
What Comes With Every Starlite Collector
Every Starlite flat plate solar hot water collector carries a 10-year warranty and is designed for long service life in commercial and residential solar thermal applications. All Starlite Series collectors are SRCC OG100 certified, providing independent performance and quality ratings used by many state, utility, and local solar incentive programs.
For contractors, engineers, and property owners managing permitting, rebate, or green building requirements, AET provides the certification documentation needed to support product review and project submittals. Incentive eligibility varies by program, project location, system configuration, ownership structure, and construction timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions
A flat plate collector like the Starlite Series uses a glazed, insulated panel with an absorber plate inside. An evacuated tube collector uses a series of glass tubes with a vacuum inside to reduce heat loss. Flat plate collectors generally perform better in consistently sunny climates and are more durable in high-wind or hail-prone areas due to their solid tempered glass construction. Evacuated tubes can have an efficiency advantage in very cold climates where ambient heat loss is a larger factor. For most residential and commercial solar hot water installations in the United States, a properly sized flat plate system delivers reliable performance and a lower maintenance profile over the system's life.
Yes. Flat plate solar collectors produce output any time there is solar radiation, including on overcast days, though output is reduced compared to full sun. In cold climates, closed-loop systems using a glycol antifreeze solution protect the collector and plumbing from freezing while still transferring heat to the domestic water supply. The Starlite Series is rated for operating temperatures up to 400°F and wind and snow loads up to ±90 psf, which covers most U.S. climate conditions.
The number of collectors depends on your household's daily hot water demand, your geographic location's solar resource, and the size of collector you select. As a general starting point, a typical single-family home in a moderate climate requires one to two collectors to cover the majority of its daily hot water load. Homes with higher demand, larger families, or locations with less annual sun may require additional collectors. We size every system to the property's actual load rather than a general estimate, so contact us before finalizing your system design.
Flat plate solar thermal collectors can be incorporated into solar combi systems that provide both domestic hot water and space heating support. These systems are more complex to design and require additional storage capacity and system controls. If you are interested in a combined solar hot water and space heating system, contact us to discuss whether your property's solar resource and heating load make a combi system a practical option.
Flat plate solar collectors require minimal maintenance under normal operating conditions. The primary maintenance tasks are periodic inspection of the glazing for damage, checking fluid levels and glycol concentration in closed-loop systems, and verifying that the pump, controller, and sensors are functioning correctly. AET collectors are designed for a 20-year-plus service life, and the sealed aluminum frame and EPDM glazing seal are built to hold up without frequent servicing. Your installer can provide a recommended maintenance schedule based on your specific system configuration.
In most installations, your existing water heater remains in the system as a backup to cover demand on days when solar output is insufficient to meet your full hot water load. The solar system handles the majority of heating under normal conditions, and the backup heater activates only when needed. This keeps you covered year-round without relying entirely on solar availability.
